When did you switch to the vegan/plant-based diet?

Thirty six years ago, I would have died. I was only 44 years old and had just been diagnosed with severe heart disease, high blood pressure, Thyroid Cancer, pre diabetes and I was almost 55 lbs. overweight. I was an aerobic instructor teaching 25 classes of aerobics per week. I thought I was eating a healthy diet of chicken, cheese, yogurt and ice cream. Luckily for me, my then new neighbor told me about Dr. John McDougall and I read his book. I could not believe that his patients were all getting over cancer, heart disease, diabetes and all chronic diseases. I jumped right in and never went back for more radiation and now I have perfect health. I just had to change to a starch based, whole food plant exclusive diet without oil. Now, at 80 I have great health and energy and still teach aerobics.

Went vegan almost ten years ago after watching What The Health and it was the best decision I’ve ever made! I do it for the animals for the planet and for my health!

I rid myself of health anxiety 7 years ago and changed my perception to risk of non communicable diseases. I am 100% plant based and 90% whole foods plant based. My family eats and lives like this too. Its truly empowering.

My husband, children and I all went WFPB immediately after reading The Whole Foods Diet: The Lifesaving Plan for Health and Longevity. I then dove into more research for months on end and had to figure out how to cook again. My hot flashes disappeared! My plantar fasciitis disappeared! My husband’s high blood pressure was reversed! While listening to plant-based podcasts, I ended up learning about the horrors of animal agriculture for the animals, and the environment. As a result, 7 months after going plant-based I became and ethical vegan and animal rights activist. I’ve now have a curated-content podcast, Plant Based Briefing, where I narrate articles, with permission, on all things plant-based and vegan related in 10 minutes per day.

All my life ive been overweight. Heart disease and high cholesterol seems to plague the majority of family members. Switching to a WFPB diet has made it possible for me to maintain a 100 lb weight loss for over 6 years. Also, I’ve lowered my A1c from 6.2 to 5.4 and my cholesterol from 289 to 190.
An added plus is my grocery bill. I can buy staples like rice and beans in bulk and some variety of greens and fruit are almost always on sale at my local grocery store.
People see my before snd after pictures and always say it doesn’t look like the same person.

I was already vegan and I started suffering from hormonal hot flushes and night sweats.
Dr Neal Barnard did a study on hot flushes and concluded that most women experience relief from these symptoms by eating wholefood plant based no or little oil or refined sugars with in 4 months.
This motivated me to try it. Within 4 weeks I no longer suffered from hot flushes and night sweats.
I also dropped 18lb in 3 months by eating this way and I have to have my wedding dress taken in by 5 inches.
Ooo and I have more energy too.
It’s a win win.

As a Vegan even Covid 19 can’t shake my immunity and positively thinking neither can any other variant be it a usb kick box it can’t dim this switch. I even feel my Melanoma can all be cured if one lives day by day on a fruit and plant based diet. I eat a plant based diet and most of all this brings me a sense of good Karma, I respect life and all sentient beings as being equally entitled to life. And as a person of faith Human dominion over Animals means for me, as we should interpret it….we must nurture and care for them when they require it by being their care takers and for me this means being anti-specism. I do not eat mammals as a mammal myself for me that is likened to cannibalism. I prefer to mangey leaf.

I was diagnosed with endometriosis, I had severely painful periods. I was vegetarian but when I turned vegan, my pains dramatically reduced! I was so relieved, to have controllable pain, instead of 2 days in bed every month! I had my life back! There was no way I’d ever go back to consuming dairy again!

I am a cancer survivor and also suffered with several chronic conditions for many years: severe asthma, endometriosis, and undiagnosed chronic pain and fatigue.

Since switching to a whole food plant-based diet, I have fully regained my health and lost 80 pounds. I am off all medications, and am enjoying the best health I have experienced in my entire life!

My journey healing my autoimmune disease, chronic hives, and severe menstrual cramps started with changing what I ate. All the specialists and doctor visits no one once suggested I go plant-based. I took matters into my own hands and started a journey to reconnect back to nature to heal my mind body and spirit. Little did I know this was the catalyst that would transform my entire life and allow me to live the life I’ve always wanted financially, spiritually, physically and live each moment with meaning and fulfillment. I am now a R.N. Health coach, speaker, and author teaching the community how to use food as medicine!

I had pretty high blood pressure but I was refusing to go on medication for it. Went plant based in 2015 after watching “Forks & Knives” on TV. In 2016 tightened it up better by following Dr. Joel Fuhran’s Nutritarian eating plan to forever protect myself from cardiovascular disease. Never felt better at the now age of 75 years young!
